Windows XP end of life

Windows XP End of Life for SiteLink Web Edition™ Users.

SiteLink and Microsoft are at war with hackers defending your data and XP is vulnerable. One after another, the SSL cryptographic protocols available on Windows XP have been disabled due to vulnerabilities. Windows XP no longer has any secure protocols left.

At the end of 2015, SiteLink will no longer support Microsoft Windows XP operating systems. Microsoft ended support for the 13 year old XP operating system on April 8th, 2014. Following Microsoft’s end of support of the Windows XP operating system, those computers still using Windows XP no longer receive Microsoft security patches and vulnerable to system compromises. Without critical Windows XP security updates, your PC is vulnerable to harmful viruses, spyware and other malicious software which can steal or damage your business data. SiteLink users need to migrate to Windows 7 or Windows 8 to benefit from enhanced security.

Computers running Windows XP are not PCI compliant.

What is PCI compliance and how does this affect self storage facilities? “The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of requirements designed to ensure that ALL companies that process, store or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment. – PCI FAQ Website.” The PCI Securities Council has deemed that Windows XP is no longer PCI compliant because vulnerabilities in the operating system are no longer patched. If you process credit cards on a Windows XP machine, you are not PCI compliant and face additional fees from your credit card processor.

SiteLink is PCI Level 1 Certified. PCI Level 1 is the highest level of payment card industry security.

The SiteLink suite of products uses the best security and encryption available. This level of security requires installation of the component Microsoft .NET 4.5 Framework. Windows XP does not support .NET 4.5 Framework. SiteLink is unable to keep up with changing security requirements on Windows XP computers because they lack .NET 4.5 framework.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can SiteLink Web Edition still be installed on Windows XP after December 31, 2015?

No, after this period SiteLink will migrate a newer .NET framework to allow for enhanced security and encryption that will not be supported by Windows XP.

Will my existing SiteLink Web Edition installation on Windows XP still work after December 31, 2015?

No, after this period SiteLink will migrate a newer .NET framework to allow for enhanced security and encryption that will not be supported by Windows XP.

Who can I contact with questions?

You can contact support@sitelink.com with any questions.

Do I have to buy a new computer?

Although it is possible to upgrade your operating system from Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 8, this is not recommended. A new PC can cost around $400 and will save you both time and money vs an operating system upgrade on old hardware.

Does SiteLink have recommendations for my new computer?

Yes, please see our recommended hardware page on our website: http://www.sitelink.com/recommended-hardware/

"I've had a consistently positive experience with the Sitelink Support Desk. The team is responsive, knowledgeable, and always willing to go the extra mile to resolve issues efficiently. They understand both the technical and user-experience sides of support, which makes communication smooth and effective. Tickets are usually resolved same day, and I appreciate the follow-up after resolution. Highly recommend their support team — they're a crucial part of our success."

"I have been dealing with Site Link for several years and am thrilled with their customer service and how approachable they are and easy to contact. They have a quality product which is hard to match. The Site Link team headed by Dallas, Curt and Michael are true professionals. They have my tick of approval. How is it that they continue to improve upon what is a great service and product already? Don't know but they do."

"We recently changed our franchise network onto SiteLink after years of average customer service and questionable software performance. At all times we have found Michael, Curt and the rest of the SiteLink team to be incredibly helpful. We have relied heavily upon the support staff to train us in what is a very fast paced working environment. There has never been a phone call unanswered or a question too stupid. Highly recommended!"
